Kenneth G. Rau

Ken. Rau, is the Managing Partner of The Winchester Services Group and a Strategic Resource of Process Partners, LLC. Ken has over 20 years of experience as a consultant, practitioner and thought leader in the information technology field. Areas of expertise include information technology planning and strategy, performance measurement, IT marketing, IT governance, organization design, and outsourcing.

He has conducted engagements in these areas for such noteworthy firms as: AT&T, Ashland Oil, Amgen Pharmaceuticals, Boeing, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Digital Equipment Corporation, Fujitsu, Kaiser Permanente, Pacific Gas & Electric and Solectron.

In his role with an international accounting and consulting firm, Ken was responsible for developing The CIO Dashboard service offering and methodology which combine such techniques as the balanced scorecard, IT modeling, performance management and the IT value proposition.

Mr. Rau has served as a Director at KPMG Consulting and LLP, as Director of Consulting for Wang Laboratories, as a Senior Manager for the Strategic Systems Planning Practice of Deloitte & Touche, as a Senior Manager of Internal Systems Consulting for Digital Equipment Company, as Director with the Consulting firm of Nolan and Norton, and as Director of Information Systems at The Church & Dwight Company.

Representative accomplishments of Ken’s include:
  • For a leading edge manufactures and distributors of optical network devises, led the technology risk assessment portion of the annual external audit for two consecutive years. Highlights include:

    • Reviewed the planned implementation of Oracle financials and identified project control and risk weaknesses. The client corrected the noted observations and successfully installed the software.

    • Post implementation of Oracle ERP, confirmed appropriateness of IT change control process, Oracle security measures, access controls, financial consolidation, account mapping, mass allocation formulas, and accounts receivable aging and matching.

  • For one of the country's largest municipal water districts, conducted an assessment of the use of technology. The project included the assessment of IT spending, application systems, IT personnel skills, technical infrastructure, user satisfaction with IT and the effectiveness of the IT organization structure, governance and management controls. Cost savings approaching $10 million dollars were identified.

  • Designed the IT organization and governance structure for one of the country's largest annuities companies and served as an advisor to its implementation.

  • For a high tech manufacturer and distributor of integrated circuits, conducted an assessment of existing IT capabilities, modeled business processes and developed the IT plan for closing the gap between the desired future and current state models.

  • For a multi-billion dollar high tech contact manufacture, lead a million dollar engagement to determine the before and after costs and benefits of outsourcing their world-wide technical infrastructure on the anniversary of their implementation decision.

Ken has his MBA from Harvard University. He is a speaker on information technology subjects for numerous organizations, including SIM, DPMA, CIO FORUM, and AMA. With David Norton, co-authored MIS Performance Management - A Guide to Design and Installation.
